The Unmistakables

The Client

An award-winning strategic consultancy, The Unmistakables delivers inside out inclusion through three key services: Inclusive Cultures, Inside Outsights and Inclusive Campaigns.

The Challenge

Mind, the mental health charity, commissioned the Unmistakables, in collaboration with Spark & Co, to research Race and Mental Health. They investigated first-hand experiences of people from ethnic minority communities who have interacted with mental health organisations and initiatives.

Having completed their research, the Unmistakables needed to take their findings and transform them into an accessible and engaging report.

The Solution

As the report focused on marginalised groups in vulnerable situations, it was essential to me that their voices were heard clearly throughout. At the same time, I was conscious that the report was aimed at people already working in the mental health sector. Therefore, the report needed to be both empowering and persuasive.

With this in mind, I structured the report around a clear narrative, which took readers from understanding the problems to implementing solutions. This narrative was rooted in the testimony of participants and supported by the facts and figures discovered in the research.

I adopted a serious but human tone of voice, which was reflective of the topic. I also used language that was powerful and inclusive. In addition, I collaborated closely with the talented graphic designer Greg Bunbury. I ensured that the headers and body text complemented his bold and modern design.

The Results

The report was well-received by The Unmistakables, Mind and Spark & Co.

Mind, other charities and the whole mental health sector now have access to a compelling document, which will help them to radically transform how they support people from ethnic minority communities with mental health problems. The report goes further and outlines how Mind can build the anti-racism movement within the mental health sector.
